Singer, teacher
Born in Buenos Aires, Sofía Levín combines tradition and modernity with a personal, intense, and feminine style that distinguishes her interpretation of tango. At a young age, she developed a passion for Argentine popular music and began training with the renowned Virginia Dupuy. She then continued her studies at the Buenos Aires National Conservatory, École Nationale de Musique de Villeurbanne, and the Gennevilliers Conservatory, while perfecting her vocal technique and pedagogy with Richard Cross.
For over a decade, she has developed an international career, alternating her teaching activities with concerts in Europe and Latin America. She has participated in projects primarily inspired by Argentine tango, such as Cuarteto Levín, Viento Sur, and Chanson Porteña, and has performed in prestigious venues such as the Théâtre de France Musique, the Musée de la Vie Romantique, the Alliance Française, the ENS de Paris, and the Maison de l’Amérique Latine in France, as well as at La Botica del Ángel, Clásica & Moderna, Notorious, and Jazz Voyeur in Argentina.
Her interpretation of tango combines poetic sensitivity, expressive intensity, and femininity, exploring the unique fusion of lyrics and music characteristic of the “tango canción.” Sofía’s approach to tango is respectful of tradition but open to influences from other styles, particularly jazz, reflecting the cosmopolitan richness of the genre shaped by more than a century of exchange between South America and Europe.
Her repertoire highlights authors who inspire her, valuing the emotional depth and storytelling of their compositions, and seeks to touch the audience through unique stories, emotions and musical experiences.
